چکیده

Abstract. Polar mesospheric summer echo (PMSE) formation is linked to charged dust/ice particles in the mesosphere. We investigate modulation of PMSEs with radio waves based on measurements EISCAT VHF radar and heating facility during low solar illumination. The were made August 2018 2020 around 20:02 UT. Heating was operated cycles intervals 48 s 168 off. More than half observed show a PMSE decrease when heater an increase it switched off again. often increases beyond its initial strength. Less modulations have such overshoot. overshoots are small or nonexistent at strong PMSE, they not ionosphere influenced by particle precipitation. observe instances very large weak PMSE. varies strongly from one cycle next, being highly variable spatial scales smaller kilometer timescales shorter assumed for variation dust parameters. Average curves over several similar overshoot predicted theory previously. Some individual stronger reported previous studies, exceed values theory. A possible explanation that dust-charging conditions different either because reduced illumination midnight long-term changes ice conclude reliably derive parameters modulations.

Dusty space plasma diagnosis using temporal behavior of polar mesospheric summer echoes during active modification

The objective of this paper is to study the effect of different plasma and dust parameters on Polar Mesospheric Summer Echoes (PMSE) temporal behavior after turn-on and turn-off of radio wave heating and to use these responses to diagnose the properties of the dust layer. The threshold radar frequency and dust parameters for the enhancement or suppression of radar echoes after radio wave heatin...

Polar mesosphere summer echoes during the July 2000 solar proton event

The influence of the solar proton event (SPE) 14– 16 July 2000 on Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes (PMSE) is examined. PMSE were observed by the Esrange VHF MST Radar (ESRAD) at 6753 N, 2106 E. The 30 MHz Imaging Riometer for Ionospheric Studies IRIS in Kilpisjärvi (6930 N, 2047 E) registered cosmic radio noise absorption caused by ionisation changes in response to the energetic particle precipit...

Polar Mesosphere Winter Echoes during Solar Proton Events

Thin layers of enhanced radar echoes in the winter mesosphere have been observed by the ESRAD 52 MHz MST radar (67° 53 ‘ N, 21 ° 06 ‘ E) during several recent solar proton events. These polar mesosphere winter echoes (PMWE) can occur at any time of day or night above 70 km altitude, whereas below this height they are seen only during daytime. An energy deposition / ion-chemical model is used to...

Thermodynamic analysis of a novel solar water heating system during low sun radiation in Iran

This paper reports a plenary thermodynamic model of a novel solar system for water heating in buildings. Energy and exergy analyses are used to characterize the exergy destruction rate in any component and calculate system overall efficiency. The system consists of a solar evaporator, a heat exchanger to produce hot water, and an auxiliary pump. A computer simulation program using EES software ...

Polar Mesosphere Summer Radar Echoes: Observations and Current Theories

The remarkably strong radar echoes from the summer polar mesosphere have been an enigma to atmospheric and radar scientists since their discovery more than a decade ago. Since then, more sophisticated radar experiments and in situ rocket measurements have shed some light on the underlying physics and chemistry, and theories have been formulated to explain the generation of the intense radar bac...
